According to him, the city is in the middle of the Musi River once flowed consists of hundreds of creeks and the majority of the area is a swamp. The development of Palembang gradually eliminate hundreds of creeks in the area, but the swamp still survive today.

He said, managing wetlands and 19 streams that now the main water channel has been carried out in collaboration with the local authority and Unesco Unsri Netherlands.

Gradually they examined 19 creeks and swamps how to manage optimally into water reservoirs. Roby added, flood control concept is already implemented, just active role is very important but until now has not been optimal. The role of the community in maintaining the cleanliness of the water channel and the environment by not throwing garbage into a key to the success of Palembang, embodies the free city and the center of the floods swamp study site. Palembang mayor Eddy Santana Putra said the city government will certainly work hard to invite people actively involved in maintaining the drainage in the area.

"Projected become the world center for the study swamp certainly never realized that the society has not been active in maintaining the cleanliness of the water channel," he said.
