Political turmoil in the state of Ivory Coast cocoa farmers an opportunity for Indonesia to boost revenue. Therefore, farmers need to improve the production and quality of cocoa appropriate national and international standards.

Lately a lot operators cocoa industry from European and American glanced Indonesian cocoa. For that, the government should enable the production of cocoa farmers in order to meet the expectations of buyers and quality standards.

This is expressed Head Field Research Center Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa Suryo Wardani to Compass in Jember, East Java, on Thursday (28/07/2011). "As the world's second largest cocoa producer after Ivory Coast, Indonesia should be able to take advantage of this market," said Suryo Wardhani.

For two years, 2009-2010, the Coffee and Cocoa Research Center Indonersia disbursed 36 million planlet clonal cocoa to support the national movement program production and quality improvement of cocoa.

Suryo said Indonesian cocoa production has experienced a huge leap to be able to overtake Ghana. Indonesia's cocoa production of 800,000 dry tons per year. As Ivory Coast persists in the first sequence with production 1.1 million to 1.2 million tons.

Ivorian political situation now less conducive, owner of the world cocoa industry began eyeing other countries, including Indonesia. This should be perceived as an opportunity for market development and improvement of national cocoa production.

World cocoa demand will continue to rise while the setup does not shift up. Now many farmers to expand acreage berswadaya cocoa crop prospects for the future are very good.

Most cocoa-producing region in Indonesia only in four provinces, namely West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and Central Sulawesi which controls 70 percent of national production. "There are still many areas yet to take advantage of these opportunities, such as East Kalimantan and several other areas," said Suryo Wardhani.

It acknowledges, quality is determined by the behavior of cocoa farmers. If farmers are willing to add time to mefermentasi cocoa, then there will be the added Rp 5,000 per kilogram. Fermented dry cocoa prices without Rp 20,000 per kilogram and large plantation company selling cocoa fermentation Rp 25,000 per kilogram.

"Cocoa fermentation can improve the taste and aroma of cocoa. Americans want to buy cocoa that has not been fermented, Europe precisely select fermented cocoa,"
